Sense — leucine is detected directly by intracellular nutrient-sensing machinery, acting as a signal of nutrient availability to the cell
Transform — leucine's carbon skeleton can be oxidized for energy and its metabolite HMB is studied in muscle-preservation contexts
Build — the primary trigger of the mTOR signaling pathway that switches on muscle protein synthesis — the best-characterized single-amino-acid activator of this function
Exchange — leucine and the other branched-chain amino acids share a single transporter (LAT1) for crossing both the gut wall and the blood-brain barrier, so very high intake of one BCAA can competitively reduce uptake of the others at that shared transport step
Form matters
The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
